After 644.5 days as an occasional teacher over a period of four years, this coming September, I’ll be starting a new chapter in my career as a permanent teacher. All of a sudden, the thousands (at least) of applications, hundreds (or more) of interviews, and tens (plus or minus one or two) of professional development courses feel like they’ve paid off. Somehow, the strands of my plaited rope of a career are starting to look less frayed. All that lies before me now is my future, supported by my belayed rope.
In the fall, I’ll be teaching a Grade 5/6 Gifted class. I’m going to need to do some research to prepare myself. That means homework. For as much as I love learning, I also take my downtime very seriously. Plus, the summer is a good time to do a number of the things that I didn’t get to during the school year, such as long periods of uninterrupted sleep. Be that as it may, I need to get to work.
One of the goals I have for this site is for it to be a collection of resources that I’ve created and curated. For me, education, whether formally or informally, is about the sharing of knowledge. There is already a huge collection of great websites out there dedicated to education, but I would like to carve out a little corner of the internet for myself. Having said this, I’ve been terrible about actually doing it (I think I’ve owned this domain for about three years).
Starting now, I’d like to commit to building this site. In order to jump-start this project, my plan is to share what I learn as I prepare for the upcoming school year. I’m thinking that I want to develop some sort of self-directed course to help me along. I’ll keep you posted on how all of this unfolds.
Join me, won’t you?
